It has been said that those who show up, go up. Well what does that mean, exactly? To me it means that there are possibilities, opportunities awaiting you when you show up to places. I’ve experienced this personally of course, as of matter of fact just on last week. The immediate thought that came to me was all the other times when I’ve showed up to something that resulted in something happening for me. Let me explain, I told myself that I was going get out and go and do different things around town and last week I decided to attend the gallery hop that we have every 3rd Thursday here in downtown Orlando. As the time drew near to go to this gallery hop, I almost talked myself out of going. As social as I am, I can be a homebody sometimes and after work many times, I would rather go and chill at home. But, I didn’t do that I pushed myself to go out. So I went and saw beautiful art pieces at the various stops. At one stop they were doing a raffle for a classical Chinese ballet performance that was going to be at the Dr. Phillips Center, so the gentleman doing the raffle asked if I wanted to put my name in to win two tickets to the performance. I thought, “why not?” Well, guess who won 2 tickets? Moi. And here I thought, I almost didn’t show up and that wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t show up. So the moral of the story here folks is just show up. You never know what may become of it. Like I have stated before I have experienced some pretty cool things just for showing up to places. Below are a few examples:
- I won a VIP ticket to big Art show in Orlando when I showed up to a food truck event that I almost didn’t go to.
- I connected with someone that lead to a job opportunity at an event that I decided to attend at the last minute.
- While at a conference that I was working, I connected with someone that hired me to work for them.
I would like to leave you with this final thought, showing up isn’t just about you. Overall, I believe that showing up can do two things. It can help you and it can help someone else. For example, I showed up to an event while there I connected with someone who worked for a company who so happened to be looking for someone with my skill set to fill a role that someone just vacated. It helped me because I was looking for work at the time and I helped them because I was able to fulfill a need that the company had. You get it? This year, I want stop with the excuses as to why you don’t show up to things. Get out there and show up. I promise you the rewards will be abundant when you do.

I have always been interesting in seeing this show. How awesome that you received such a great reward for just showing up!
