The Six Best Veggie Burgers You Must Try in Orlando

When I was a meat eater I loved burgers. I mean I was a burger connoisseur of sorts. Since becoming a vegetarian in 2013, I’ve had to find something that I would equally enjoy. I then discovered veggie burgers and was happy to find out that there was such a wonderful variety and that I wasn’t subjected to some of the nasty processed brands found in the grocery stores. When I go out to eat at different Orlando restaurants I like to try different ones. Below are some of my favorites and their descriptions:

Just Show Up!

It has been said that those who show up, go up. Well what does that mean, exactly? To me it means that there are possibilities, opportunities awaiting you when you show up to places. I’ve experienced this personally of course, as of matter of fact just on last week. The immediate thought that came to me was all the other times when I’ve showed up to something that resulted in something happening for me. Let me explain, I told myself that I was going get out and go and do different things around town and last week I decided to attend the gallery hop that we have every 3rd Thursday here in downtown Orlando. As the time drew near to go to this gallery hop, I almost talked myself out of going. As social as I am, I can be a homebody sometimes and after work many times, I would rather go and chill at home. But, I didn’t do that I pushed myself to go out. So I went and saw beautiful art pieces at the various stops. At one stop they were doing a raffle for a classical Chinese ballet performance that was going to be at the Dr. Phillips Center, so the gentleman doing the raffle asked if I wanted to put my name in to win two tickets to the performance. I thought, “why not?” Well, guess who won 2 tickets? Moi. And here I thought, I almost didn’t show up and that wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t show up. So the moral of the story here folks is just show up. You never know what may become of it. Like I have stated before I have experienced some pretty cool things just for showing up to places. Below are a few examples:

  • I won a VIP ticket to big Art show in Orlando when I showed up to a food truck event that I almost didn’t go to.
  • I connected with someone that lead to a job opportunity at an event that I decided to attend at the last minute.
  • While at a conference that I was working, I connected with someone that hired me to work for them.

I would like to leave you with this final thought, showing up isn’t just about you. Overall, I believe that showing up can do two things. It can help you and it can help someone else. For example, I showed up to an event while there I connected with someone who worked for a company who so happened to be looking for someone with my skill set to fill a role that someone just vacated. It helped me because I was looking for work at the time and I helped them because I was able to fulfill a need that the company had. You get it? This year, I want stop with the excuses as to why you don’t show up to things. Get out there and show up. I promise you the rewards will be abundant when you do.

Out on the Town: Celebrating All Things Arts at Artlando

On last weekend I took an entire Saturday and celebrated all things artsy. Ever since I moved to Orlando, I’ve always wanted to attend Artlando, a 1-day festival that celebrates various forms of art, but I always had to work and this year was the first time I was off. So I was ecstatic! I love art and I love watching performances and this festival seem to have it all. Here are some of my favorite highlights:

The event was held at the beautiful Loch Haven Park, Orlando’s cultural corridor. Loch Haven Park is home to several of Orlando’s top museums such as, the Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando Science Center, Orlando Rep Theatre and Mennello Museum of American Art.

I arrived at the park using a Juice bike. Juice Bike is the new bike-sharing program here in Orlando. I got a chance to first try this out during a city bike tour I went on a few months back. If you’re interested in touring the city by bike you can find bike stations all throughout Downtown Orlando, the Loch Haven area and in Winter Park.

Two words. Food Trucks. The festival featured some of my favorites from the Tasty Tuesday’s events so this was a definite score for my belly. LOL.

I got to attend the event VIP style. Thanks to the Orlando Weekly I won a VIP ticket to Artlando when I attended Tasty Tuesday’s in the Milk District. I was super stoked! Saturday was a scorcher and if you had VIP, you got to sit underneath a shaded tent, you received 14 drink tickets (lots of soda and water for me, Yay!), and a complimentary T-shirt. The other cool thing about having VIP is that you get to meet perfectly awesome strangers. One gentleman I met works with graduate students in the Health Communications field. Another gentleman I met is a veteran and does YouTube videos to help people relax. His friend that he was with is a former makeup artist and works for Ripley’s Believe It or Not, one of the most curious’ places in America. Conversation with these two was refreshing, inspiring, and enlightening. Needless to say, I had a blast.

The main stage is where most of the performances took place. On the main stage I watched an explosive science experiment, several ballets, and a fantastic accapella group from UCF.

The art vendors were really cool too. My favorite booth of them all was the Poetry Vending Machine. How the poetry vending machine works is that you give the writers a title for your poem and three words. After your submission, that turn your title and along with the three words given and turn into a beautiful piece of poetry in 20 minutes.

Overall, Artlando was a fantastic time. I can’t wait for next year’s event. Check out my pictures below from the event.

Fun Things to Do this Fall

FallSeason

Ahhh!! Fall is officially here. It is my favorite season of the year. I love the smell of the great outdoors, watching the leaves turn colors and feeling the crunch of them under my feet, and best of all the weather. For the past four years I have been living in Orlando and unfortunately I don’t get to experience the great changes in weather that my Northern family and friends experience. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy some fall fun.  Here are some fun fall things you can do for the fall season.

Go to a Fall Festival- As a fall is a great time to get outdoors, you are sure to find festivals of all kinds. I would say mostly throughout September and October.

Attend a Fall Football Game and Tailgate- Everyone loves the great American sport of football and even if you don’t you can enjoy the tailgate festivities.

Cook a new Recipe-Stews, soups, chili…I could go on. There are some great comfort foods you can learn to cook. I plan on trying a few new hearty soups. Here are some ideas I found on Pinterest. Fall Recipes

Volunteer-Fall is great time to give back, especially with Thanksgiving coming up. Find somewhere you can volunteer your time helping to make someone else’s life better.

Go to a Haunted House-Halloween is next month so you have plenty of time to find a place that will scare the pants off you.

Find a Corn Maze if you’re not into being Spooked- While there are some scary corn mazes, there are some mild ones. This is one of my favorite activities to do in the fall. Unfortunately, since I’ve been in Florida I haven’t been to one. I believe that this is the year for me to go.

Go Shopping-Fall is a great time to stock up on necessities. It is also a great time to add some nice trendy pieces to your wardrobe.

Drink Apple Cider-Make it hot and add some caramel to it. Yummy! Check out the recipe here.

Eat Cider Donuts-This goes great with some apple cider.

Visit the Cider Mill- You can get the above items at this wonderful emporium that is the very essence of fall. Find one and go.

Go on a Hike-You need a way to work off those all those cider donuts. Fall is a beautiful time to get outside. Find a trail and take a hike.
